A useful initial discussion

Turning your idea into a concrete file

Are you preparing a self-employed activity, a company with partners or the launch of a business? Start by describing your project before looking for a list of formalities. Your activity, your location and your resources determine the questions to consider.

This page helps you organise your thoughts and present your needs to the platform. To review the rules in detail, consult our guide to setting up a business in Luxembourg. You can also search directly for a fiduciary firm.

Describe my project

The three points to clarify before getting started

01

Your business activity

Describe what you will sell, to whom and in which countries. Check whether your activity requires a business permit and specific qualifications.

02

Your organisation

The number of partners, the liabilities and the desired operation guide the choice of structure. The legal form may still be discussed with a professional.

03

Your financing

Identify the investments and cash flow required to get started. A business plan helps connect your ambitions with the resources available.

Your preparation journey

What steps should you anticipate to set up your business?

The order of the steps depends on your activity and the chosen structure. These four reference points help you prepare the right questions.

01

Check access to the activity

Specify the services or products offered. Have the applicable authorisations, qualifications and establishment conditions checked before starting.

Prepare the authorisation application →
03

Organise formalities

Identify the documents, stakeholders and registrations to plan for according to your situation: incorporation, trade register, taxation and social security.

Review the incorporation steps →
04

Prepare day-to-day management

Plan ahead for invoicing, filing supporting documents and cash-flow monitoring. Have your VAT obligations clarified and, if you are hiring, the procedures relating to staff.

Organise your accounting from the outset →

What should you prepare before contacting a fiduciary services firm?

An initial file can be simple. Distinguish what has been decided, what still needs to be compared and the matters for which you would like support.

  • Your offer: business activity, target clientele, countries concerned and sales method.
  • Your team: number of partners, each person's role and planned recruitment.
  • Your location: desired municipality, available premises or ongoing search.
  • Your budget: start-up expenses, recurring costs and planned resources.
  • Your calendar: desired date, steps already taken and known constraints.
  • Your expectations: incorporation, accounting, taxation, payroll or aid assessment.

An example to describe your needs

Fictitious example: two partners wish to launch a consulting activity. They know their target clients but are hesitating over the structure and budget. Their first message may specify their roles, the countries of their future clients, the planned expenses and the choices that remain open.

Ask the professional what is included in their engagement, which documents are required, and the distinction between their fees, formality costs and operating expenses.

State aid to explore for your project?

Indicate your interest in the form, your planned expenses and the commitments already made. The schemes have their own conditions and timelines; start-up assistance, for example, applies to certain newly established businesses subject to conditions.

To assess an aid scheme, prepare the nature of the activity, the date of establishment or authorisation, the planned expenses and the situation of the partners. L’support for first-time business creation applies to certain commercial or craft micro-enterprises: it is not automatically available to every business creator.

This support request does not constitute an official aid application and does not confirm eligibility.

Questions to ask before getting started

Setting up a business: your frequently asked questions

Do you need to have chosen your legal form to complete the form?

No. You may present your activity and state that your choice remains open. The form is used to express your need for support; it does not constitute a company.

What budget should you plan for to get started?

Distinguish between incorporation costs, investments and the cash flow required for the first few months. The share capital is not an estimate of all needs. Prepare your revenue and expense assumptions in a business plan, then have them discuss with your contact.

How long does it take to set up a business?

There is no single timeframe for all projects. Authorisations, the chosen legal form and document preparation influence the schedule. State your preferred date and ask which steps determine the actual start of operations.

Does the form submit an official aid application?

No. It sends your presentation to the platform team. Official applications follow the procedures specific to each scheme; for initial creation, the procedure is carried out on MyGuichet.lu.

What does the platform do after my request?

The team receives your information to review your needs and contact you again. This initial contact does not confirm either the granting of assistance or the acceptance of an engagement by a firm. You may also view firms by service.
